Usually the classic rock (especially early-to-mid 1970s) is good… bands like Free (”All Right Now”) or Deep Purple (”Smoke on the Water”) or Lynyrd Skynyrd (”Sweet Home Alabama”, “Free Bird”). Your parents would be experts about that, because odds are they were alive at that point. This sort of “good” music died about 1979, though every so often you’ll hear a song (Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” or “Any Way You Want It” - both from the 80s) after this point that fits your description of good music.
Styx is also really good… their harder songs “Miss America” and “Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)” and “Renegade” fit the bill you established.

If your looking for Christian bands that Christian rock types try David Crowder Band, Chris, Tomlin, Steve Fee, Delirious?, Hillsong United, Casting Crowns, Mercy Me, Matthew West..
If your looking for just normal rock Dave Matthews Band is my personal favorite. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dispatch, Matt Costa, FM Static (actually a christian band too but sings about everyday situations), Relient K, Hawk Nelson (same as FM Static), Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox Twenty, Hellogoodbye, Hootie and the Blowfish, James Morrison, John Mayer, Sister Hazel, Jon McLaughlin.

First of all, welcome to the family.
The worship band that I’m really partial to is Third Day and Casting Crowns, who both have songs that minister straight to your heart as well as ROCKIN’ songs, too.
As far as pop music goes, I would recommend Collective Soul’s first and second records, Hootie & the Blowfish, the Wallflowers–any feelgood music you can find.

the only Christan band i can think of is Underoath, but i douby you’d be able to tell if they cursed or talked about sex anyway.
ummm maybe you’d like Flyleaf or Superchick. lotsa girls at my church like them. Underoath is cool and they’re christian. or Relient K. Those are some good ones that are like, normal…
