by Abi J Ponton

Live bands for wedding day reception are a great idea if you really want your day to be remembered for all the right reasons. They provide either a great source of fun and excitement for guests of all ages or they can create a great ambience in which to unwind and chat leisurely with other guests.

Finding the right live bands for wedding on the internet is one option. A simple google search will yield thousands of results. Deciding on which one is right for you is the tricky part. Once you have decided on the musical style, you can narrow down your search. For example, instead of “wedding bands” enter live jazz bands for weddings.

Live bands for weddings should have an established history of performing. Established bands will have a website or a face book link where you can listen to music and view videos to get a taste for the musical style and quality of the band.

Once you have a couple of live bands for weddings selected, make sure you check qualifications. Call previous venues or clients and get feedback from the experience. You may also want to go listen to them play at a local venue and see what you think.

Because you are having a live band at your wedding your ability to communicate with the band well is vital. A lot of people just simply do not realise what work goes in to setting up a band at different venues.

Your live wedding band will need ample parking, and close enough to the site to unload equipment. Another consideration for your band is electrical outlets. Make sure that it is easy for your band to unload, set up, play and break down. They will appreciate your efforts, and it will make the experience easier for everyone.

Double check that your venue of choice doesn’t require that you have a license to play live music. As the host, this is your responsibility. The band may not know, and you will need to have appropriate paperwork.

You also need to inform the band if the venue has a sound limiter because if they play too loudly the power to their equipment will be cut off. This is nothing to worry about as the band just need to know about, it should not affect their performance if they already know about it.

Now all you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy your live wedding band play live on your special day for the bride and groom.
