The world possesses a rich heritage in music that is very different because of musical instruments that they used to play. Musical approach differs in every country and with the use of different ethnic instruments our legacy and culture are being shared to the world. They are our musical treasures. People have different cultures which produce different creative imaginations and through this, different world instruments are created. These instruments produce a feel of a familiar sound with rhythm and melody that we can relate to.
The lineup for classic world instruments ranging from drums, strings, wind and percussion. Actually, the list is numerous. All of these portray a rich heritage as it came from different parts of the world. It may be a challenge to familiarize with each of them but getting to know some of the famous ethnic instruments that are being used up until today is a good knowledge to acquire. This is because many of these are still being used in concert halls or even on the street, proving that they are truly are satisfying and provides a unique and wonderful experience.
Considered as one of the oldest world instruments are the drums. As a matter of fact, the basic design has not been changed at all. The Ashiko Drum which is an African drum that originated from Nigeria is one basic example. It is popular in festivals and street parades. Having its big deep sound, it makes you focus more on the rhythm and Tall people prefer it. It is great for band that plays in drum circles and can be used for solo play. Other examples are bodhram, bongos, congas, djembe, doumbek and tabla drums.
String instruments can produce incredible flexible sounds. These instruments are flexible enough to be played in different music genres. The string instrument balalaika is a Russian folk instrument that can be played from folk music to classical and even rock music. It can be a replacement for violins, violas and violoncellos in orchestras. Another string instrument is the Celtic harp, it is considered as one of the most romantic of all instruments. It is perfect for people who want to achieve tranquility and for meditation purposes for the relaxing sound which this instruments produce. Lute, oud, psaltery, saz, sitar, mandolin, tanpura and bouzouki are other example of string instruments that are popular in world music.
Wind instruments. Wind instruments are the ones that offer a unique experience. They are instruments used for reminiscing rich culture and heritage that is being preserves by playing out distinct tunes Celtic Bagpipe is one the wind instruments that can produce a humming sound. This is also being treasured and supported by the active musical community. Other examples of wind instruments are didgeridoo, harmonium, rag dung and shofar.
Percussion instruments on the other hand have many types and have traditional functions as well. The gong is a kind of percussion instrument that is used for different occasions such as ceremonies, TV shows, weddings; start and end of contests, and many other occasions. Different types and sizes can produce different kinds of pitch. Caxixi, cuica, kalimba thumb piano, singing bowls and tambourines are other examples of percussion instruments still being used and preserved by the ethnic music community.
